The Parable of the Weeds: Love Will Overcome Hate

The Parable of the Weeds: Love Will Overcome Hate

‘Do you want us to go and pull them up?’

“No,’…he answered, ‘because….you may

uproot the wheat with them….”

~Matthew 13:28, 29

The Parable of the Weeds gives us an insight to why evil and good co-exist in the divine plans of the almighty God in the lives of mankind.

Every human being by nature have the disposition to love and hate, be happy or sad, create or impede opportunities for growth, neighborliness and friendship. Additionally, we all have within us the capacity to build or destroy, advocate for life or engage in killing one another and propagate peace or war.

Through it all, many of us wonder why there is so much evil in our world and why should a loving God let that happen, given the fact that there is nothing that is impossible for him to do! We invariably want God to come and create heaven on earth for us, period.

However, the Parable of the Weeds explore a unique dimensions for humanity and especially for the children of God; those who by faith believe in the goodness and salvation of the almighty God through Jesus Christ our savior and Lord of our lives.

The explanation that was given by our Lord Jesus Christ clearly manifest the uniqueness of every individual person to God and further cement the obvious, that God will not destroy the innocent with the guilty (Genesis 18: 20-32).

Jesus Christ replied the disciples concerns by way of explanation stating the following facts:

He, Jesus Christ, the Son of Man is the one who sows good seed!

The enemy; Devil sows the weeds

The field is the world!

The good seed are the children of the Kingdom!

The weeds are the children of the Evil one!

The harvest is the end of the age and

The harvesters are the angels of God!

The question we ought to dwell upon is Am I the Seed or the Weed?

In order to be the Seed and therefore the children of God, we must become LOVE by loving God, keeping his commandments and loving one another!

As the Seed, which personify LOVE, we must therefore be patient, kind and not jealous. We must not brag nor be arrogant; rather we must be fill with humility. As love, we must be generous, rejoice in righteousness, truth and goodness. We must be self-controlled, refusing to be easily provoked, forgive and do not take into account a wrong suffered. We must bear all things, believe all things, hopes all things and endures all things.

By these fruits, we are indeed the Seeds and therefore the children of God.

Now, when evil befalls us, there is the natural tendency of wanting to get rid of it!  If God is to respond to wickedness or malevolence by just getting rid of the source, there is also the propensity that the Seed might be hurt is reminding us!

Therefore, the Lord, Jesus Christ said “No,” because he does not want us to be hurt.

As a seed we are also given the unique task of showing to the many weeds we encounter in life that our God is compassionate, merciful and kind, and always willing to change us into Seed, if only we are serious about giving up on our evil ways.

Therefore the next time you hear about such acts such as terrorism, racism and hate crime directed by the weeds in our lives, we who claim to be the seeds of God must pray and act, so that the goodness of God will overcome the evil of the Devil, and the light of love will overshadow the darkness of hatred.

We are the seeds of God when we love one another!

We are the seeds of God when we sacrifice for one another!

We are the seeds of God when we put God first in our lives!

We are the seeds of God when we feed those who hunger!

We are the seeds of God when we clothe the naked!

We are the seeds of God when we stand for justice and speak out against evil!

We are the seeds of God when we treat others with fairness!

We are the seeds of God when we forgive our enemies!

We are the seeds of God when we help people to be good!

We are seeds of God when we work to make our environment safe!

We are the seeds of God when we visit the sick and prisoners!

We are the seeds of God when we love our country and support good laws!

We are the seeds of God when we see God in everyone irrespective or race!

We are the seeds of God when we refused to discriminate against others!

Today we must ask ourselves, am I a Seed of a Weed for my family, friends and neighbors?

I don not care whether you are Black or White, Latino or Asian, resides in the developed countries of the world or in the developing worlds, educated or illiterate, rich or poor, tall or short!

I do not care about whether you are considered to be evil or a good person, whether your sexual orientation is straight or not!

What is most important today is whether you are willing to become a Seed of God, a child of God, and that means giving up on those things that are represented by the Weeds; death, sin, hurt, pain, deception, discriminations, wickedness, malice, envy, jealousy and other forms of evil!

Prayer:

O Lord our God, today I come before your throne of grace and seek your divine intervention in our lives!

Please change us into your perpetual Seeds today and always so that as love we may overcome the Weed of hate.

Help us to cope with the Weeds in our lives that we are unable to change.

Above all, let your love reign within our hearts today, so that we as your Seeds are able to be the light of the world.

In Jesus Christ mighty name, I prayed and with a thanksgiving heart for the gift of life, family and neighbors. Amen.

The Divine Weaver

The Divine Weaver is a reflection, meditation and also complete submission to the will of the almighty God who is the “Divine Weaver” in our lives.

The contemplation therein is powerful, encouraging and necessary for all those of us who may be experiencing challenges and even doubts as to why me?

May you find peace as you read and meditate on this powerful prayer today!

The Divine Weaver

My life is but a weaving

Between my Lord and me.

I cannot choose the colors

He weaveth steadily.

Oft-times He weaveth sorrow

And I, in foolish pride,

Forget He sees the upper,

And I the underside

Not’til the loom is silent,

And the shuttles cease to fly,

Shall God unroll the canvas

And reveal the reasons why.

The dark threads are as needful

In the skillful weaver’s hand,

As the threads of gold and silver

In the pattern He has planned.

My life is but a weaving

I cannot always see.

I let Him choose the colors.

He knows what’s best for me.

(GAN #191 Author Unknown)

Prayer:

O Lord, My God,
You are the creator of the universe and humanity!

Today like any other day, I come before your throne of grace, to seek your divine providence in the lives of my loved ones and that of mine.

Please help us all to put our trust in your infinite plan of a better tomorrow for our lives.

Help me to see you in every adversity that inflicts on me and give me the courage, strength and power to overcome hatred with love.

Let me by your instrument of peace, love and light today.

In Jesus Christ mighty name, I offer my petitions and with a thanksgiving heart! Amen

Civility, civilization and God!

Civility, civilization and God!

Civility must not be an excuse to adapt negativity.
Civility does not imply complacency in faith.
You can be civil while remaining a Christian or person of faith.

Civilization in contrast to barbarism and chaos is a state of advancement and orderliness of the highest level.
However, this orderliness will be threatened if at any time, we refuse the necessity of God in our lives.
The family, which is the microcosm of a nation, is the foundation of civilization as planned by the almighty God and to deny this fundamental truth is a recipe for anarchy, dogmatism and mediocrity.

Any country that takes away God from her people is considered a communist nation, which is one in which the apparent orderliness is guided by the government and not human conscience anymore. As we have witnessed, this development and the purported organization of lives and properties are in reality simply a mirage, since it is neither deep rooted nor real.

When a country, no matter how civilized consciously negates the necessity for God and prayers, the end results is barbarism and chaos! This is evident on the basis of the fact that, under such environment, men no longer feel the urge to show compassion, act base on conscience nor consider any law higher than the man made constitution.
Under this ugly environment, people attempts to do the "right" thing not because they are considerate about the need to love or show wisdom (the fear of God), but simply to fulfill an obligation.

Consequently, when a government advocate laws that maybe anti- love, anti-hope and anti-faith, anti-diversity, anti-progressive and anti-integration; for instance the tolerating of the status quo that discriminates people on the basis of race, socio-economic and political status, creed and the manifestation of law enforcement officers treating people based on stereotypes, dogmatic and mediocre philosophy and the perception that some people are problematic and too rigid to tame, those who executes these laws feel justified by their conduct because they are operating based on the constitutionality of such law irrespective whether it is humane or otherwise.

In this country, we need God in all ramifications of human endeavors.

We need God in government!
We need God in Schools!
We need God in public!
We need God in our lives and especially,
We need God in our homes!

If you claim to have faith and believe in a God and your life is guided by the constitution which is manmade, limited and in most cases enunciated to punish, rather than in the law of God whose heart is mercy and justice, you are fundamentally part of the problem.

Simple examples of the limitation of living under the law of current civilization as opposed to the kind of civilization that God wants humanity to live by are:

Slavery used to be legal, but is neither godly nor right.
Lynching used to be legal but is not right
Racism used to be legal, but it's not right.
Discrimination used to be legal, but not right.
Killing used to be legal but is not right.
Hatred is legal and justified, but is not right.

True civilization therefore is when humanity consciously act based on a good and godly conscience without the presence of a kind of a body camera, traffic camera and or security camera!

If in the absence of body camera, the police will not ill-treat in a discriminatory pattern some categories of people that will amount to civilization that God intends for us!

If in the absence of security camera, I refuse to take advantage and hurt someone else, that is civilization.

If in the absence of violence, I find time to pray with my family, community and in school and every place else, again, this is civilization.

The opposite to some of the examples above leads to anarchy as manifested in the lack of values for virtues, lives and properties, increase suicidal tendencies, lack of mutual respect and love and most especially the death of the spiritual being, of which every human being is!

Amen!

The Necessity of Reformation & How to Love God

The Necessity of Reformation & How to Love God

The following message came to Jeremiah from the LORD:
Stand at the gate of the house of the LORD,
and there proclaim this message:
Hear the word of the LORD, all you of Judah
who enter these gates to worship the LORD!
Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel:

Reform your ways and your deeds,
so that I may remain with you in this place.
Put not your trust in the deceitful words:
“This is the temple of the LORD!
The temple of the LORD! The temple of the LORD!”

Only if you thoroughly reform your ways and your deeds;
if each of you deals justly with his neighbor;
if you no longer oppress the resident alien,
the orphan, and the widow;
if you no longer shed innocent blood in this place,
or follow strange gods to your own harm,
will I remain with you in this place,
in the land I gave your fathers long ago and forever.

But here you are, putting your trust in deceitful words to your own loss!

Are you to steal and murder, commit adultery and perjury,
burn incense to Baal,
go after strange gods that you know not,
and yet come to stand before me
in this house which bears my name, and say:
“We are safe; we can commit all these abominations again”?

Has this house which bears my name
become in your eyes a den of thieves?
I too see what is being done, says the LORD.
Jeremiah 7: 1-11
Prayer:
O Lord, our God, today we your children come before your throne of Grace and seek your mercy, compassion and forgiveness for our sins, evil desires and ingratitude for all the love you have manifested in our lives, and yet we take them all for granted.
Help us today to love and serve you, O Lord God and to love and serve our neighbors.
Touch our hearts today, that it may be turn from that of ‘stone’ to one of flesh, where love can reside.
Give us your peace, the same peace that the world sort but can never obtains as a result of the evil of man.
Give us your light that we may walk through darkness confident in your protection and guidance.
Give us your wisdom so that we may learn to fear you by loving your words of eternal life.
Grant us your grace, favor and mercy that we may be counted worthy of your eternal Kingdom.
O Lord God please helps us to live a life worthy of our faith in you.
Thank you heavenly Father, for in Jesus Christ mighty name I pray!
Amen

Saint Mary Magdalene: How To Proclaim the Resurrection In Our Time

Saint Mary Magdalene: How To Proclaim the Resurrection In Our Time

“I have Seen The Lord.”

~ St. Mary Magdalene (John 20:18)

Today is the feast of St. Mary of Magdala, who was given the special task of being the first individual to announce the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ to the fearful disciples.

She is an emblem of courage, strength and one who was powerfully aware of the power of love.

She loved the Lord, Jesus Christ and was unrelenting in her mourning after his crucifixion.

She was very courageous and led the team of women to visit the tomb at a time that such an action may result in persecution or even death, given the persistence of hate that filled the atmosphere.

The disciples of Jesus Christ locked themselves in the upper room, fearing that the Roman soldiers may come after them and do the same thing that was done to their Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ!

Today the same St. Mary Magdalene is challenging us; how are we going to handle the task of announcing the resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ to our world, and beginning with our family?

What does the resurrection of Jesus Christ mean to you and what are the ramifications in believing in this eternal truth and how can we become the courier?

Without the resurrection of Jesus Christ, our faith as a Christian would have been vanity!

Without the resurrection of Jesus Christ, the message of salvation could have been false!

Without the resurrection of Jesus Christ, there would have been no life after death!

Without the resurrection of Jesus Christ, heaven and hell would be unreal!

Without the resurrection of Jesus Christ, there could have been no hope for humanity!

The resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ is the culmination of the plans of salvation for mankind by the almighty God, beginning from the text in the Book of Genesis about the interaction with the Serpent; “Her seed shall crush your head”

How can we become the courier of the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ as St. Mary Magdalene did today?

We must love God with all our heart, all our might and all our strength and we must also love our neighbor as ourselves.

In order to love God wholeheartedly, we must be willing to allow his will to prevail in our lives. Therefore no matter whatever circumstances we may be going through, our faith in the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ demands that we hold on and put our faith, hope and trust completely on the divine providence and mercy of our God.

In a nutshell, trust and obey and live in love and do right with the law of the almighty God, which are written in our hearts.

In respect of loving your neighbor as yourselves, without an iota of doubt, we are challenged to show compassion, understanding and mercy towards others!

The resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ can be proclaimed in our lives when we among others engage in some of these actions that are intended to manifest the salvation of our God in our lives:

When we share our faith in God with others we proclaim the resurrection

When we feed the hungry, we participate in the message of the resurrection

When we clothe the naked

When we visit the sick

When we give drink to the thirsty

When we visit the prisoners

When we comfort those who mourn

When we rejoice with those who celebrate

When we offer compassion to strangers

When we open our hearts and share our lives with others

The resurrection of Jesus Christ can be made manifest additionally,

When we welcome those we considered being refugees

When we welcome those that are immigrants

When we welcome those that suffer from wars and other conflicts

When we welcome people irrespective of their race

When police treat blacks based on love, the resurrection of Jesus is real

When blacks treat police with love and respect, the resurrection of Jesus Christ is real

When leaders draft policies that accentuate life, the resurrection of Jesus Christ is real

When world leaders stop trading on arms and weapons, the resurrection of Christ is real

In our times, the resurrection of Jesus Christ will only be meaningful when we use it as the basis of living the life that will bring glory to God and love to mankind.

Are you going to be St. Mary Magdalene today?

My family and me have decided to be agents of the resurrection of Jesus Christ by trying to bring love and happiness, peace and understanding, humility and obedience, and sharing whatever we have; food, drink, clothes and home with those who are in need of these things and most importantly, sharing our faith as Christians too.

May God bless you all! Amen!

In Memoriam: Mama Fatu Onoja Odeh

In Memoriam: Mama Fatu Onoja Odeh

Words failed me and for the first time I am unable to fully express how I really feel about the transition of another of my “mother.”
My friends in America kept us asking me, how many mothers do I have?
The answer is simply, too numerous to count, because in Africa, your mother is that woman, sister, daughter and even stranger that love you so much that she’s willing to breastfeed you and treat you like one of her blood!

I am from a polygamous family; that is already established!
What many people, however did not know about my family is that when you come closer, irrespective of the challenges we face, deep down in our heart, love permeates all our actions. We the siblings grow up loving ourselves in a unique ways that makes so many to envy the Odeh’s family.
This would not have been possible without the exemplary lives of all of our mothers.
Today, I write with heavy heart, the humanly untimely transition of one of my mother, Mama Fatu Onoja Odeh of blessed memories.
I am who I am today in part because of her love, care and compassionate discipline that abound in every good mother!
I am also in the field that I am because way back in the primary school when I was playfully doing a demonstration of how plants grow, she told me science was the best thing for me.
She was there for me as a child, as any mother will be for her child.
She was at my graduation.
She was at my traditional marriage in Kabba, Kogi State, Nigeria.
She was in Abuja for my church wedding at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
She was with us when my first son Fidelis Oga Odeh Jr., was born
She was with my family when Oronya Jr., was born, even though I had left Nigeria.

Then my brother Innocent died and John followed, and we all begin to wonder for how long can a woman bear these losses? If not for her trust and hope in God, no human being could have expected that my mother will be here until now!
She waited until her last born and the youngest of my siblings, Onoja Jr., got married; with plenty of celebration, dancing, eating and merrymaking, all the guests have gone back to their respective homes and every place have become quiet, then quietly she urge the Lord, our God in whom she trust, to come now because she’s ready to return back to her creator.
There has never been a time that death is ever a welcome thing in life, no matter how deplorable the condition of a man may be, and this case is not any different. Nevertheless, I dare to celebrate the life and time of my mother, Mama Fatu!
Yes, I dare to celebrate her life and offer God, thanksgiving for her stay with us!
She is as fair as the moon and bright as the sun for all of her children; encouraging and admonishing us at the same time. While people see our mistakes, she deliberately chose to see our efforts to right the wrong.
I am very much encouraged by the words of the Prophet Jeremiah:

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
before you were born I dedicated you….”
~ Jeremiah 1: 5

Now that you have begun your journey to eternity, please Mama Fatu do me a favour: Pray for all of us that you are leaving behind! Ask God to give courage and strength to all your children especially, Inalegwu and Owoicho and also Onyema and her children.
Okay, greet John, Innocent, Amedu, Eliza and all our beloved ones that have faithfully departed this world.
As you rest, may the almighty God shine upon your beautiful soul, his perpetual light of eternal life and glory and may your soul and those of our beloved and all the faithful rest in perfect peace in our Lord, Jesus Christ. Amen!
I love you, but our God love you more!

Reflection(s): Justice and Hope

We live in very difficult times, especially in light of recent events that have their genesis in hatred, discriminations and injustices. Additionally, ignorance, bigotry and perpetual glorification of dogmatism and inimical stereotypes have contributed in no small measures to the unjust killings all over the world, from Iraq to Afghanistan, from Syria to Egypt, from Libya to Algeria, from Nigeria to Sudan, from China to Japan, from Saudi Arabia to Yemen, from France to Germany and from the USA to Canada, just to name but a few.

In all these instances, we share a common denominator, namely the quest for justice that unfortunately is misrepresented in a jungle justice fashion.

The reality is that two wrongs do not make a right and the dogmatism of “an eye for eye” only leave us totally blind.

True justice can never be achieved through injustices and actions that dehumanize humanity and end up leaving us to question the rationale for such tactics.

It is about time we come together and begin to tackle the root cause of these nefarious, despicable and undesirable mentalities being propagated by organizations and individuals, which have led to near annihilation of civilization before our own eyes.

I therefore call upon humanity, to step back, reflect and come to a round table where we can reason again, discuss and enlighten ourselves on the necessity to put an end to hatred, discriminations and injustices. This can only be achieve in a humane environment in which we all put away our hearts made of ‘stones’ and replace them all with that of pragmatic compassion, understanding and wisdom.

We must stop stereotyping people; as a matter of facts, not all peoples are the same and a single bad or good action cannot define an entire class of race, religion and ideology.

We must fashion a way to discuss, hold a conversation, as opposed to just ‘talking’ without listening to the other party.

We must consciously make effort to pursue peace by becoming an instrument of peace through the way we love, show compassion and stand with justice irrespective of how challenging or uncomfortable we may feel.

In the United States of America, we must be more than willing to call a spade a spade; meaning when we are wrong, it is on us to accept responsibility and try to right the wrong.

Regarding the issue of police ‘brutality’ or mishandling of power or resources leading to the death of several unarmed Blacks, the system must be able to call out bad cops and allow due process with the mindset that justice must prevail! The opposite will be to pretend as if nothing wrong has happened, which unfortunately will continue to make the police who are to provide security of lives and properties to look bad, and misrepresented as licensed to killed without recourse to the law.

On the other hand, when citizens take up arms against the police and attacked our officers, this is a very disturbing, despicable and evil trend that has no place in civilization! An attack on any police officer is pragmatically an attack on all of us, because they are here to protect and not harm us!

Moving forward, there must be several interventions and at different levels between the people and the police and especially among the minority communities in the country. Such interventions must have as its fundamentalism the necessity to propagate justice, honesty and truth. The confidence level among all parties involved will become acceptable when we all share in the belief that if there is an obvious infringement justice will prevail.

The judicial system must prove beyond reasonable doubt that 'it is not more difficult to convict the guilty than free the innocent!' Additionally, nobody is above the law nor should be treated as a ‘sacred cow’ whether it is the police or an affluent kid.

I have hope, irrespective of the nonchalance, detrimental and very gloomy events that have engulfed the country especially since the death of Mr. Sterling in Louisiana.

This is the time we ought to come together as a people, no longer as peoples, lay our heart bare to one another, seek forgiveness for wrongs done and promise to love one another and allow justice, goodness and compassion to define our future actions.

My hope is unshaken, not because I have answers to all these challenges, but simply because I have my hope in the almighty God who is the origin of love! If we accept the fact that we are all created in the image and likeness of God, it will become very easy for us to see God in our neighbor and that will lead us to begin to treat our neighbors as ourselves.

Don’t tell me, but show me that we really love one another!

Prayer:

O Lord, God show us your mercy and love today!

Do not cast away from us your divine inheritance.

Shepherd your people with your staff of righteousness, love and compassion.

Grant us the courage to allow justice to flow like the river in our lives.

Fill our hearts with your beauty and love for your creation and help us to see you in one another from today onward.

I present these petition, in Jesus Christ mighty name. Amen!

Let Justice Prevail: Attack on Police is Attack on All of Us!

The country is hurting right now following series of gun violence leading to the death of two unarmed Black Americans and eight police officers, of which one is also black and the rest White cops.

The genesis of the recent fatal attacks on the police came on the heel of the shooting to death of Mr. Sterling in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Mr. Castile in Minnesota, both blacks and unarmed fueling massive demonstrations organized by the #Blacklivesmatters movement which composition is a microcosm of America.

Following these ugly incidents in which the entire world stood still at the callousness, denigration and inhumanity that was displayed on the cell phone capture of these cold-blooded killings of these Black men, many in the country felt the Police officers are being treated like sacred cows and they can kill at will without justice prevailing.

Another dimension emerges, when a Black man, who was a veteran acting as a lone wolf, murdered five police officers and wounded seven more excluding Americans demonstrating police brutality in Dallas, Texas! The attack was carried out with Assault Rifle and the suspect was later killed using a Robot driving bomb.

On July 17, 2016, the country again, has to stand still to witness yet another senseless, detrimental and absolutely uncalled for attack on the Police officers at Baton Rouge, this time leading to the death of three (two White and a Black) officers.

This is a very inimical trend that has the potential of permanently damaging the psychological balance between the police and the community she served. Additionally, the country cannot fold her arm and watch in horror this kind of barbaric retaliation.

Enough is enough!

It is about time, we allow the justice system to prevail, but in a fashion that convict the guilty and free the innocent!

It is also about time that Americans of all race, ideology and creed are treated on the basis of the principles of justice, humanity and fundamental human rights.

It is about time; especially the Congress to adequately addresses the issue of gun, gun control, types of gun that citizens can carry and the ability to obtain weapons of mass destruction!

My heart is heavy and we cannot continue to witness this breakdown of law and order as a result of very few bad cops making bad decision! Our officers that are being killed due to this heinous mentality and retaliation by lone wolfs are not responsible for the actions of these bad cops, so why kill them?

Let justice prevail, because any attack on the police is sincerely an attack on all of us!

May God grant eternal rest to the souls of the faithful departed, and to their families and all of us the fortitude to bear these irreparable losses!

Amen!

God Bless America!

Pray-For-France: Nice Terrorist Attack!

For how long are we going to be witnessing this kind of heinous crime against humanity?

It is about time the #Western world re-evaluate their involvement in the wars in #Iraq, #Syria, #Afghanistan and other parts of the world with the mindset of showcasing that it is indeed trying to save humanity from annihilation and not otherwise through the use of Weapons of Mass Destructions!

Woe unto those who use religion as a justification for their actions!

One of the best ways of helping these folks is perpetual enlightenment, otherwise this #lonewolf will continue on their path to destruction.

God help France today and always.
May the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen!!

All Lives Matter: Black Lives Matter- "The Lord will not abandon his People"

Psalm 94

R. (14a) The Lord will not abandon his people.

Your people, O LORD, they trample down,
your inheritance they afflict.
Widow and stranger they slay,
the fatherless they murder.

R. The Lord will not abandon his people.

And they say, “The LORD sees not;
the God of Jacob perceives not.”
Understand, you senseless ones among the people;
and, you fools, when will you be wise?

R. The Lord will not abandon his people.

Shall he who shaped the ear not hear?
or he who formed the eye not see?
Shall he who instructs nations not chastise,
he who teaches men knowledge?

R. The Lord will not abandon his people.

For the LORD will not cast off his people,
nor abandon his inheritance;
But judgment shall again be with justice,
and all the upright of heart shall follow it.

R. The Lord will not abandon his people.
