Congratulations to President Buhari as Germany allocates € 18 billion
President Muhammadu Buhari was in Berlin, Germany, on three-day official visit from Oct. 13 to 15 to discuss matters of security and national development.
Germany has allocated €18 billion
for the recharging of the Lake Chad through the diversion of rivers in the
Congo Basin to empty their waters into the lake.
Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany,
unveiled the project at a joint Press Conference with President Muhammadu
Buhari following bilateral talks on Friday in Berlin.
This is indeed a positive development
given the skepticism, cynicism and sarcasm that Nigeria was portrait prior to
the presidency of Mr. Muhammadu Buhari.
There is still more work to be done
especially in the fight against corruption, nepotism and dissident mentalities
that pitched the have against they do not have, the poor against the rich and
Christians against Muslims, among others.
This trip by Mr. Buhari and the outcome
is a testimony of who the world is anxious for the giant of Africa and the
largest market in the continent can once more lead again, and on behalf of well
meaning Nigerians, I thank Germany for their interest.
In a lighter note, without doubt, sexism
in context of the Western understanding has never been a culture in Africa and
President Buhari has never been known to be an advocate of such negativity. It
may interest the die-hard antagonist of the president that his children men and
women are given equal opportunities and the same is applicable to his
exquisitely lovely and well educated wife!
One of the hallmarks of a mother is the
enviable and near sacred task of being the mitochondria of the home, or in
simple parlance the “engine room” of the family and by extension the country. A
woman’s place is neither in the kitchen nor in the office, but in the engine
room of her family and country.
May God continue to bless Nigeria and grant her leaders the right mind and heart to make the country great again, through fear of God, integrity and love. Amen!
