Happy New Year 2017

John 1: 1- 18

In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
He was in the beginning with God.
All things came to be through him,
and without him nothing came to be.
What came to be through him was life,
the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

He was in the world,
and the world came to be through him,
but the world did not know him.
He came to what was his own,
but his own people did not accept him.

But to those who did accept him he gave power to become children of God, to those who believe in his name, who were born not by natural generation nor by human choice nor by a man’s decision but of God.

And the Word became flesh
and made his dwelling among us,
and we saw his glory,
the glory as of the Father’s only Son,
full of grace and truth.

John testified to him and cried out, saying, “This was he of whom I said,
‘The one who is coming after me ranks ahead of me because he existed before me.’”
From his fullness we have all received, grace in place of grace, because while the law was given through Moses, grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God. The only Son, God,* who is at the Father’s side, has revealed him.

REFLECTION:
Let your New Year 2017 resolution include letting God be God in your life and therefore learn to allow divine love, mercy and providence to direct all your actions, words and thoughts.

Happy New Year!

The Meaning of Christmas

The Meaning of Christmas

The scepter shall never depart from Judah,
or the mace from between his legs
~ Genesis 49: 10

Summary: The true and triple meaning of Christmas are that, first and foremost God kept his promise to mankind, secondly it is a family feast and last but not the least Christmas is the manifestation of God adopting the entire mankind into one Jewish tribe under “Judah.”

God Fulfilled His Promise
In the book of Genesis, God promised that Judah will be the custodian of the scepter forever and the mace will never depart from him! This prophecy was fulfilled in our Lord Jesus Christ, who was sent to the world by God to be the prince of peace and the messiah.
Christmas is therefore the feast in which we acknowledge the faithfulness of our God to keep to his promises and as a result by faith, we can continue to rely on his steadfastness in our lives.

Family feast: Genealogy of Jesus Christ
The people of Israel waited about 42 generations before the Christ Jesus was born in Bethlehem!
According to St. Matthew, there was a total number of fourteen generations each from Abraham to David, David to the Babylonian exile or deportation and finally from the Babylonian exile or deportation to the Christ. Beginning from Abraham, the account of the genealogy of Jesus Christ is a long list of some unfamiliar names and yet, God in his infinite wisdom and divine mercy allowed some of the imperfections in the family to become the instrument of perfection. There are many messages we can abide with from this development, namely, no human family is perfect and God can use anyone who is willing to serve him in truth and in spirit. Furthermore, this long list has what is obvious in life; the beginning and the end. The evangelist Luke traces his own genealogy of Jesus Christ to Adam and Eve, therefore transforming the human race to what God intended it to be; ONE BIG AND INDIVISIBLE FAMILY UNDER THE UMBRELLA OF JESUS CHRIST, WHO IS THE ONLY BEGOTTEN SON OF THE LIVING GOD.

God’s Adopted Family
Christmas is a family feast in which the almighty God adopted the entire human race under the umbrella of the tribe of Judah. The implications are obvious when we consider how we relate to one another! Nobody is therefore a foreigner in the house of God, as we are all called upon to share in the same table, the throne of the grace of our God through the birth of the infant Jesus Christ.
According to the psalmist, “In him shall all the tribes of the earth be blessed; all the nations shall proclaim his happiness.

REFLECTIONS:
Christmas is an opportunity for us to think about God’s faithfulness and loving plans for mankind! The Almighty promised us that he will come and save humanity, and behold he did it by sending his Only Begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ to come to us through the Blessed Virgin Mary as an infant baby born in Bethlehem and from the lineage of King David through his adopted father Joseph the son of Jacob.
Christmas is also a time for us to reflect and appreciate the human family! No family is perfect in terms of virtues and charity; nevertheless, we are being challenged to focus on the love and faithfulness of God to weather the storms of life such as discrimination, racism and hatred.

It took about 42 generations from the time of Abraham to the birth of Jesus Christ! We must learn patience, perseverance and endurance no matter what we may be going through because, when God is involved in a situation, the Almighty always keep his promises. The Israelite waited for the messiah in spites of the ups and downs of life and their faithfulness is rewarded beyond human imagination.
In the house of God, we are one and nobody is a foreigner or alien, but we are all citizens!
This then is the meaning of Christmas to me!
God bless you. Amen.

Prostate cancer sufferer ‘cured’ by blasting tumors with testosterone

Prostate cancer sufferer ‘cured’ by blasting tumors with testosterone

A man with advanced prostate cancer that didn’t seem to be treated has been “cured” by a new experimental therapy.
The new treatment involved shocking tumours to death using testosterone.
Other very ill men involved in the trial saw astonishing results, with tumours being seen to shrink and the progress of the disease stopping in its tracks.
Overall, most of the people involved in the trial seemed to undergo positive results. Scientists tested that by looking at levels of Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), a blood marker used to monitor prostate cancer – and found that it fell in most of the 47 people involved in the study.

Is Your House Built On Rock Or Sand?

Is Your House Built On Rock Or Sand?

“Everyone who listens to these words
of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man
who built his house on rock.”
~Matthew 7: 24

Literally speaking, a wise man will not want to have sand as the foundation of his house because when the floods come, without doubt, such a house will crumple! It therefore make sense that the foundation of any given house should be made from rock- an epitome of durability, strength and protection against heavy rain and other natural disasters that a sandy foundation cannot withstand.
In our contemporary society, we try our best to insure our lives and properties, even subscribing to flood and fire home insurances among others.

Today Jesus Christ is telling us to lay our house on the solid foundation, the rock of durability, dependability and steadfastness, which can protect against any kind of disaster! However this house is not the physical structures that we commit so much towards such as the payment of the mortgage, taking care of the lawns, changing old windows and ensuring that it is covered by the necessary home insurances. Jesus is asking us about the real house- which is you and me- the Temple of the living God!

What kind of insurances have you purchased for this “House”?
Did you buy life insurance for this house?
Did you purchase disaster insurance for this house?
What about health insurance?
Did you buy unemployment insurance for this house?
Did you already buy funeral and the grave place for this house?
What about car insurance necessary if you drive to protect against accidents and liabilities?

We spend countless of hours trying relentlessly to protect our ephemeral being and yet may find it difficult to appreciate the necessity of investing in the eternal “House” or “Temple of God”- of which we are!
The advent season is the preparatory era in which Jesus uniquely calls us to have a second thought, a real reflection on what is actually important to us without losing the physical insurances that we pay for ever seconds of our lives on earth.

The foolish man may have a beautiful and gigantic house, saturated with all the necessities of living in this world, such as high-tech building, anti-burglary or anti-theft system, the best swimming pool and luxurious lawns, the most decorated living rooms, dining rooms and even bedrooms, however during the slightest sign of rain and flood, this beautiful house is among the first to crumble because, fanciful as it may seems, it was build on a very fragile, unreliable and weak foundation synonymous to sand-house that kids built on the sea shores.

On the contrary, the wise man does the complete opposite; building his house on a solid and rock foundation which can withstand any kind of natural disasters!
The foolish man is that “House” which listens to the words of eternal life through our Lord Jesus Christ and refused to act on them! In fact, these Good news or Gospel failed to change his course in life and unfortunately and most regrettably, he continued in his life of sin, hatred and wickedness. Such a foolish man put his trust not in God, but on ephemeral principalities and powers such as money, personal talents and qualifications, and manipulates others for his selfish gain.

When this foolish man encounters challenges in life, because his “House” was built on sand, he turned to blaming others for his crisis or even ready to kill in order to experience temporary relief. Yes, he may be able to overcome some of the difficulties; nevertheless, such solutions are neither durable nor everlasting and consequently will lead to the loss of his soul!
The wise man recognized the need for God and the necessity of his complete dependence on God, through Jesus Christ who is the manifestation of the solid rock that forms the corner stone or foundation of the building!

As we head out today, please let us allow Jesus Christ gifts of the Holy Spirit to penetrate our souls and make our hearts to love again, hope again and have faith again, not in ourselves, but in the almighty God, who nothing is impossible to do.

Remember to build your house on the Rock- Jesus Christ and reject the use of sand- our individual talents and capacities! If you listen to the words of Jesus Christ and live in accordance to them, you are building your house on the rock and marching toward eternal glory.
May the good Lord bless his words in our hearts today!
